8:57 am - US Army warns Twitter could be used by terrorists
Here's the link

Yep, the US Army has decided that Twitter is a ready made terrorist communication tool. Please, no one tell them about email! But in respect to the US Army, I just wanted to imagine what that might look like...

What are you doing?

Husayn is trying to figure out these stupid remote triggering devices. Anything to avoid spending Ramadan with his wife's sisters!

Ali is watching Coalition troop movements. Bo-ring!

Kamel wishes the carpet bombing would stop soon. The cave is cold. And the other martyrs smell bad.

Akbar is thinking about the 72 virgins awaiting him in Paradise. They better not be fat like his sister Fatima, or he is going to feel very mislead by his imam.

Commander Tariq says his Mujahedin should stop using the Zionist tool Twitter and get back to fighting the infidels, or he will beat them like the cowardly she-goats they are.

6:21 am - Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog
Wow. I just saw all 3 acts of http://www.drhorrible.com.

That was tragic. Beautifully, deliciously tragic.

Joss Whedon is my master now.

(Aww, who am I kidding. He's been my master for a long time now. But this time, he really blew my mind.)

9:23 pm - Phone Strangeness
I had some phone strangeness today. Someone called my direct line, and asked for a Jay Doe.

(Of course, John Doe is not my real name. However, I'm using that as an example because the caller was using my first initial as if it were my name and my proper last name. So it was obviously not someone I know.)

Since this sounded like it might be some kind of telemarketer, I said "May I ask who is calling?" There's a momentary silence. The silence lasts just long enough to make me wonder if the line has gone dead, when the question is repeated. "Could I speak to Jay Doe, please?" I then repeat, in a more forceful tone, "May I PLEASE ask who is calling?" And then at this point, it gets even weirder, as this anonymous person steps up the forcefulness and says "Could I PLEASE SPEAK to JAY DOE". She's speaking at that point that's just barely a step below yelling. And the whole thing just breaks so many rules of how you communicate on the phone, I really only have one response.

I hung up.

That stuff just weirds me out. If you're calling someone you don't know, you pretty much expect it's someone trying to sell something, or someone trying to make a connection. So why the heck would you be an idiot about it? Part of me wanted to find out. But it was soundly beaten by the part of me that feels my time is precious, and the knowledge that my imagination would probably be a much better story than the truth. :)

7:18 am - Now what?
Of course, the very dangerous part of stating you are going to restart your journal is that then people actually expect you to say something. This is very difficult when you've spent a while deliberately suppressing that urge because of your workplace.

So perhaps that's what I should talk about... my former workplace. I find it quite satisfying that it seems I was not the only one who was unhappy there. Since the beginning of the year, everyone in my department that had been there over 3 years has left except for the person that everyone dislikes and one other person. I kind of wonder how that's seen up top by the management. They put one person in charge of a department, and within two years, all the long term employees in that department have left the company. Bah, knowing the company leadership, they're probably happy because it's cheaper. Never mind that the work being done is at the level of programmers fresh out of school.

It amused me to no end to speak to a friend of a friend who had actually interviewed for my old company. I guess at the interview, she directly asked why the huge turnover. She was told "We like to bring in new people for fresh new ideas!" Ah, so that explains the 90%+ turnover rate in less than two years. :)

11:02 pm - Hmmm...
As some of you know, I had quite a few entries in this livejournal, some offering a peek into my innermost thoughts. Well, a few years ago, I discovered a co-worker (and not one I got along with) had linked me with this journal. The only real option was to cease posting, and remove existing posts. It was frustrating, but it had to be done. And as a result, I somewhat abandoned this journal.

But I've moved to a new job recently, and now that no longer applies. And I'm blowing the dust off this old journal. Can I get back in the habit? I mean, now I'm on Facebook and a few others... Do I even have time?

We'll have to see...

9:37 am - Why are you here?
Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to nought
Or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way
The time is gone
The song is over
Thought I'd something more to say

(Yes, it's gone. All of it. Someone was reading my journal that I never expected, and the only safe solution was to make it go away. It tears my heart, I archived some of the good bits, but it had to be done.)
